Britain's insistence on paying for American purchases in gold is causing uneasiness and financial circles are beginning to favor granting Britain a long terra loan without ecurity, similar to the recent Anglo-French, loan. 'ihe gold payments for British purchases from America in 101G reached 90 n-illicns sterling. Americans fear Europe will find an additional monetary .unit, leaving the United States with g/oftt stocks of gold, for which there will be a depreciated demand. Thus there is a unique situation, Americans preferring British promises to pay rather than gold.
