22ND. REINFORCEMENTS.
TARANAKI STILL SHORT, The Group Commander at Hawera advises that ten men were despatched to camp yesterday to fill vacancies in the 22nd. Reinforcements, but a further 20 men are still required to complete Tr.ranaki's quota. A special effort is therefore being made to obtain these recruits, who will, if available, be sent to Trentham on Wednesday, November 1. It is almost certain that this month's quota will be the last to proceed before the adoption of the compulsory system, so it is hoped that available men will respond at once and thus delay the enforcment of the ballot system in Taranaki. In addition to new recruits, any men who have signed on for later drafts and now find themselves available at once, may be transferred to the 22nd. Reinforcements upon applications to the Defence Offices at Hawera or New Plymouth.
