WHANGAMOMONA.
COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. (From A Correspondent.) The County Council met on Monday. Present: Crs. J. MeChiggage (chairman), Coyne, T. R. Morrissey, H. McLeod, M. O'Neill, H. Cleland, and M. Geever. On the motion of Cr. <3ecver,*it was resolved: "That the Ohura road and such other roads as the Council may decide be declared main roads." Tho Council decided to grant A. Bray half-pay whilst incapacitated, the amount to he deducted from insurance moneys. • The engineer (Mr. Robinson) was instructed to prepare arf). submit plans oi bridge on Wluingamomona road to Public Works Department for subsidy. Votes of thanks were accorded to Crs. Gcever and Coyne for their valuable services as li deputation to the Minister of ''Public Works at New Plymouth, and to Mr. H. Okey, M.P., for assistance given to the deputation. * A deputation comprised of W. Bacon and others waifed on the Council asking for repairs to the WhangiUnomona road, and that the thirds accruing on the 12ft. portion of the road be not spent on maintenance, also asking for a subsidy for a public telephone to faliimaroa. ' Tho overseer's report was. read and adopted. M CORRESPONDENCE. From Public Works Department, re grant for Ohura road (£.10), and as to subsidy for Putikituna road loan (£lsoo).—Received. From Putikituna road settlers re loan.—On the motion of Cr. MeChiggage, seconded by Cr. O'Neill, it was resolved: "That Mr. Robinson lie asked to submit details and proposals of expenditure already made, under his supervision on account of Putikituna road loan for road work and bridges, totalling £Bf!s Is lOd, to the Resident Engineer of Public Works Department, and explain the position of the past and future expenditure to the Engineer."
The overseer was instructed to interview the Resident Engineer re procedure to be adopted in re obtaining of a subsidy on loans.
It was decided that the settlers in Putikituna*. road loan area be asked to pledge their thirds to repair the damage done to the Koluiratahi road through metal carting thereon, in lieu of taking 50 yards of metal. It svas resolved that Robinson and Neilson's tender for metal on (Putikituna road oe accepted for 750 cubic yards, subject to approval of (Public Works Department of plans and specifications, and subject to promise of Public Works Department to provide £ for £ subsidy on a £ISOO loan, such subsidy to be paid by the. Department as soon as possible, and to be payable, if circumstances so require, on past loan expenditure, the loan money and subsidy together to total £3OOO.
A letter was received from the Department of Agriculture re noxious weeds. —Receievd. The settlers from Maki road wrote re telephone.—Received. The Chamber of Commerce, Stratford, wrote re telephone from Tahora to Tatu.—Received. OVERDRAFT. After hearing counsel's opinion re limit of overdraft, it was decided that the clerk write to the Bank of Australasia pointing out that Mr. T. F. Martin's opinion is that) Government subsidy is ordinary revenue, and the Council requests that the limit of overdraft be increased by the amount of same, namely, £SOO. Mr. A. V. Moss wrote re "thirds" on Section 5,- Block 111, Mahoe S.D.-M was decided to give effect to his request. Tenders are to be called for Upper Mangaehu.road bridge, to close 14 days alter completion of plans, same to be dealt with by the Strathmore Riding members.
fenders are also to' be called for the supply of dog collars, to close in a week and be dealt with by' Cr. MeChiggage and tho county clerk. Accounts amounting to £384 10s 4d were passed for payment.
