BOWLING.

WAITARA GREEN. The Bowling Club had delightful weather for the opening day of its season on Monday. Mr. ,T. Foreman, the president, in the absence of Mrs. Foreman, called upon Mrs. Ogle, wife of a former president, to throw the jack, which «he did truly and well. Mr. Foreman then declared the ground open for the season. There was a splendid attendance of members—six full rinks—which represented practically the whole of the playing members, and a goodly number of onlookers, including several visitors from Inglewood. The usual match, President v. Vice-President, was played, and resulted in a win for the latter team by a dozen points, after a most enjoyable game. i

'A PATRIOTIC TOURNAMENT. The tournament on the Hawera green on Monday, in -aid of the patriotic funds, resulted in a very enjoyable time being spent toy those engaged, reports the Star. There were thirty-two nominations —or four full rinks; Ave games wero plajed, resulting'in the following team winning, coming out without a loss: J. Hicks, W'ere, McNiven, W. Robertson (s.). Entries and a few odd subscriptions netted over £4 for the Slick and Wounded F.und. i 'PLAY AT STRATFORD.

The progressive pairs at the towTfng green on Monday attracted some attention. Interest never flagged. Two prizes were given, that for skip falling to Mr. J. S. Ro'ne. The veteran G. W. Curtis gave him a good race, the wins being equal, but the points scored were in favor of Rowe. J. Lyons was a lion in leading and landing the cash or trophy. The Wounded Soldiers Fund netted £1 5s in collections, whlist the winners of the day's, games also refunded lialf their winnings for the same purpose.
