PRICE OF MEAT.

SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE EXPECTED. (By Telegraph.—Special to Daily News.) Wellington, Last Night. A substantial rise in the prices paid by the trade for New Zealand meat under the requisitioning scheme is now assured. Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward have communicated to the Ministers here the results of their conferences .vith the Imperial authorities, and details will he placed before representatives of the producers at a conference on Thursday next. It is stated that the increase is in the neighbourhood of a Jd per lb., and represents roughly an additional million on the season's output. The British Government is u, willing to make any change in the system of marketing the meat in the United Kingdom. That big profits were made by some retailers is admitted, but the authorities argue that it would be impossible to interfere with the retail trade without affecting supplies of foreign meat.
