DISTRICT NEWS.

OAKURA. (From Our Own Correspondent). A concert and dance promoted by tlie teacher and school teommittee in aid of the Soldiers' Comfort Fund was held in the Oakura Hall )n Thursday evening- last, when the hall contained the largest crowd that has attended any function for sonic considerable time It was chiefly a school children's concert, •but a good number of adults rendered songs, etc., which fill 2d in a very plea -, saut two hours. The children's items were really good, and they reflected great credit on our teacher (Mrs. Pearson), especially when one takes into consideration the fact that most of the children had never taken part in any such affair previously. School children's concerts, which are always sure of a good house when in aid of any worthy cause, have 'been a thing of the past in Oakura, for some time. The, different items rendered were too numerous to enumerate, but the most popular one appeared to be a recitation by Mr. Williams, of Omata. A very worthy cause should benefit 'bv the proceeds, and the thanks of the district are due to Mr. and Mrs. Pearson for the time ajd trouble expended by them in training the children. The committee also attended well to their many duties.

11 r. and Mrs. C. Mace have been collecting here in aid of the wounded sol diers, and their efforts in that direction have been attended .-vith great success.
