STRATFORD.

(Prom Ou" Own Correspondent), , otratford, Monday. To-day an ideal one for the holiday. A large number of sports railed a nd motored to WaVerlcy in the hope of finding winners* ill e:icii of Die races there. Probaibly now they are convinced tliey can earn coin more surely, if in smaller quantity, at the carpenter's bench than at the tote house. A good number of Stratford folk made the journey to New Plymouth and spent a pleasant outing. The 'bowlers had <ir ideal day for the progressive pairs match, as far as the went her was concerned. The green was in good order and the day was passed very pleasantly. At the time these lines were penned the winning pairs were not sighted. In the morning 2S pairs were engaged, and others were expected in the aftemoon. The painter.? here are evidently busy. The schools are now receiving a coat of paint that should smarten up their appearance. Evidently the contractors were anxious to take advantage of the sunshine, as the men behind the brush were busy whilst the solicitor, tjie hairdresser, etc., were basting in the sunlight in the neighborhood. A horse in a gig had a trial run into the country this morning. He may be running yet. He became restless, or lonely, or hungry, and wanted to get home. At anyrate he moved off, doing Broadway at a smart pace and, turning on to the east road, developed a gait that quickly carried it out of sight of the few strollers in the street at that moment.
