CROSS-COUNTRY RACE. The animal cross-conntry event in connection with the New Plymouth Boys' High School was run yesterday, in fine, but rather windy, weather. The course, about 4} miles, was the same as last year, viz., from the School, up Avenue Road to the Henui Bridge, along the right bank of the river, out on to the Old Hospital Road, to the bowling green, over the old railway "bridge to Watson Street, Lemon Street, Hobso'n Street, back to the School grounds. There were 213 started, and the winner turned up in Nicholson, with a handicap of 11 minutes. Fastest time was recorded by H. Lueena, who covered the distance from scratch in 29min. 39sec, L. H. Russell (30sec), taking 30min. 25sec. The placed runners were: Nicholson, (llmin.), time, 3Cmin. 42sec, 1; Knapman ((iimin), 32min. 15sec, 2; Pease (s}min.), 31min. 42sec, 3;' Gnscott (SJmin.), 32min. 7sec, 4; ■ Jullett ((j'min.j, 33min. 25sec, 5; Hutchinson (Smin,), 32min.
