TOURNAMENT AT WITIORA,
Tlip turnamont promoted by the Witiora. Golf Club, in aid of ahe Soldiers' Comforts Week Fund, eventuated yesterday in almost ideal weather, and proved most suceesful. There were a large number of entries, and some very interesting competitions resulted. The links were in good order and Caretaker Bennett was- of groat assistance in arranging for the approaching competition. The ladies match arrangements wore well carried out by the secretary, Miss Rundle, who was ably assisted by Miss Goldwater, the club's captain. Miss B. Oliver was in charge of the sweets, which met with a ready sale and. 18s 6d was realised. The results of the day's matches are as follows:
Senior, medal match, 18 hole.—Mis? K. Free (New Plymouth), 120—25—95; Miss Rundle (Witiora), 110—14—96; Mrs. Birch-Johnston, 122—25—97: Mrs. Glenn, 111—12—99 (both New Plymouth).
Junior medal match, 18 holes.—Mrs. F. Brown, 117—32—85; Miss Stohr, 125 30—89; Miss Hooker, 120—30—90 (all Witiora), ,and Miss Rollo (New Plymouth (New Plymouth), 121—31—90. Senior bogey match.—Mrs. Birch-John-ston, 10 down and Miss K. Free, 11 down (both New Plymouth). Junior bogey match.—Mrs. F. Brown, 3 down (Witiora); Miss Rollo (New Plymouth), G down, and Miss Hawke (Witiora), C down. Senior driving.—Mrs. Birch-Johnston 140 yards, and Mrs. Walker, 138 yards (both New Plymouth.) Junior driving.—Miss Hawke (Witiora), 150 yards, Miss Rollo (New Plymouth), 132 yards. Senior approaching.—Miss Brewster (New Plymouth), scored five points, and Miss Rundle (Witiora), three points. Junior approaching was won by Miss Hawke (Witiora), scoring 3 points. Senior putting. Mrs. Johns (New Plymouth), won with 18; and Mrs. Birch-Johnston and Miss Blundell (both New Plymouth) 19, were second. Junior putting was won by Mrs. Dell who scored 20.
The men's matches resulted:' Bogcy> J. Stohr; medal, E. Gilmour; driving, G. Gray 195 yards first; Nicoll, 192 yards, second; approaching, C. McAlluni; putting, G. A. Corney. Mr. Medley, in presenting the prizes, apologised for the absence, through an accident, of Mr. O'Callaghan, the president, who forwarded a donation of £1 towards the fund. Mr. Medley also thanked the visit members for their attendance.
. The entries produced r £B 14s Od, and with a balance in hand and Mr. Callaghan's donation, the club will he able to hand over £l2 5s to the fund.
