DOMINION NEWS.

WOMEN POLICE. By Tdegraph.—Press Association. Vellington, Oct. 18. A large deputation of women waited upon the Hon. A. L. Herdman, Minister of Justice, to-day, to urge the appointment of women police for court work and safeguarding the welfare of women and children in the streets. The speakers included Lady Stout, who referred to the good work done by women police elsewhere. The Minister, in replying, said the deputation must recognise that it would be folly to appoint women with the full powers of police officers. It was intended, howevei, to request thei Government to appoint additional police matrons for court work. This would go a long way towards meeting the deputation's request.
