At the S.M. Court qn Friday, before A. C:coke, Esq., the case E. B. Stohr v. Egmont County Council was adjourned, on application to lmve the evidence of Mv. A'Court Opie (late engineer to the. county) taken in the Ihveloc-k Court. The claim is for £2O 7s for car hire, and will be interesting to local bodies.
The. Court, was occupied most of the half-day sitting in hearing a plaint brought by the Timber Company nt To Kiri against Miss Hilda Kopp, for trespassing on the property of the company by occupying a tenement, the property of the company. The defence was that 'Miss Kopp had sub-leased the place from one Xeilson. The ease was adjourned, the magistrate expressing the opinion that it should never have been brought into court.
The case, Ncilson v. Kopp. lor the possession of four cows leaded by plaintiff to defendant, was in favour of plaintiff. Defendant's evidence was that the cows were sold by plaintiff to her. Tiie defendant having paid no money on the cows, nior interest, was ordered to give up possession. Judgment was given for plaint iff in the following cases Wi Kupe v. Moiohau, £B, costs .CI 12s (id; Phillip Bros. v. J. Bishop, £1 1 (is, costs ss; A. Baker and Soils v. J. Bishop, £2S Ss, costs £3 l'4s; C. Jenkins v J. Bishop, £2 11s, costs 30s. The Pierroettes gave an excellent eoncert in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund in tille Town Hall on Wednesday evening, and it is expected that £3O will be c)cared as a result of the effort. The concert programmu consisted of songs and choruses, quartettes and duets. The soloists yore: Messrs. Papakura, K. Thorpe, Chambers, and Rathbone; Mesdanies Rathbone, Campbell, Burton, Borrow, McLean, Thorpe and' Thompson. The quartettes (humorous; Messrs Ohanvbers, Rathbone, Thorpe and Papakakura, were very sood. The costumes worn by the performers were of the picrette kind, and looked neat.
The Women's Patriotic (Juild continue to hold weekly mart sales, and average over £(> per week in tile takings. The Wounded Soldiers' Fund is now about £ISOO, and £125 was forwarded last week to the Ilawera .Ambulance Fund, so that the district is doing good work in the interests of patriotic funds. The Egmont League lias a very small area under their jurisdiction, namely, Tauliatoru to Oaoinii rivers. The wealthy .parts of the district prefer to work through other channels, but tliey all reach the same objective. At the annual meeting of tire Pihania Dairy Company, the following directors were appointed:—Campbell, Julian, Looney," Lambie, Malcolm and Pettigrew. Mr Looney was. elected chairman of directors. v
