»*•i ~ i ■ ALL DAY TOBACCO DAY, The Tobacco Day held at the Waiwakaiho links on Thursday, October 5, was a great success, the siim of over £lO being taken in entrance fees and afternoon tea money alone. This was further augmented by several donations, including £1 from Dr. Leathern, £1 from the White Hart Commercial Travellers, and several smaller donations, making a total amount of '£l4. Entries were received from Stratford, Inglewood, and Witiorn, as well as from the New Plymouth Club (both ladies and me")!). The arrangements for the day's programme were very well managed by the club captain (Mrs. Jones), to whom much of the credit of the day's success is due. She was ably assisted by the Committee and Mrs. Kcbbell, Mrs. Penn, and Miss B. Matthews who looked after the luncheon and tea; and Miss Cutfield, who was in charge of the sweets, which sold well. Thanks must be given to Dr. Leatham, Mr. Cutfield, Mr. McQuade, Mrs. Glenn Walker, and Miss Putt for placing their cars at the disposal of the club for conveying visitors to the links. Following are the results of the day's matches:— FLAG MEDAL MATCH, • i ' 18 holes. Seniors.—Miss D. Laing (Inglewood), with 115 strokes carried her flag just short of the 20th green, Miss L. Laing was second, a few yards off. Miss L. Thomson (New Plymouth), holed out at the 19th, and M|ss Rundle (Witiora), was two feet from the pin at the same hole. Juniors.—Mrs. F. Brown (Witiora), played hei 127 th stroke and holed out at the 20th hole, winning easily. Mrs. Stewart (Stratford) was second, and Miss C. Leatham, Miss Bradbury, Miss L. Reed (all New Plymouth club), and Mrs Dell (Witiora), all played strokes on Hie lOtli green. - ■— BOGEY MATCH. Seniors.—Miss Rundle (Witiora)', ended up all-square. Misses I), and L. Laing (Inglewood) were second, 2-down; Mrs. Buxton (Witicra) and Mrs. BirchJohnston (New Plymouth), were 3 down, and Mrs. Glenn, Miss M. Free, and Miss Thomson (all New Plymouth), were 4 down. Juniors.—Mrs. F. Brown (Witiora) finished 2-up on bogey but could not win both matches, so Miss L. Reed (New Plymouth), 1 down, was first, Miss K. Free, 3-down second. DRIVING. Seniors.—Miss L. Laing (Inglewood) was first, with a drive of'lol yards, Mrs. Johns, 185 yards, second, and Mrs. Glenn IS2 yards, third. Juniors. —Miss Spence (Stratford), 135 yards, first. - APPROACHING Seniors. Mrs. Birch-Johnston and Miss Blundell tied with 5 points, and in the play off Miss Blundell won with 3. Juniors. —Mrs. Dell and Miss Tiplady tied with 3, and in the plaj off Miss Tiplady won, PUTTING. The golfers' putting match for seniors was won by Miss Rundle, with a score of 16, but as she was a winner in the morning the prize went to Miss Leatham 18. The junior was won by Miss Bradbury, l(i. A continuous putting match was held for non-golfers, and this was won by Mrs. E. F. Blundell, with. Mrs. Brewster, 21, second, ~ ~.»"■■ ~ iJ ' ■ . MEDAL MATCH FOR MEN This was won by Mr. E. P. AVebster, with the goad score of 122-27—75. W. H. Wood was second, with nil—2o—7o. The links were in splendid order, and reflected great credit on the caretaker, who has also been of great assistance to the Ladies' Committee in making a temporary tee for the driving competition, and also arranging so well for the approaching competition. >
