N.P. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.
OPENING DAY, The official opening of the above Glub took place yesterday afternoon, when members had practice at the 300, 500, and 000 yard ranges, some good scores being registered. After firing at the first two ranges an adjournment was made for afternoon tea provided by the ladies. The President, Mr. F. ,T. Hill, before presenting the prizes won last veai, said he was very pleased to meet "them all again at the opening of a new season. He regretted that they had not a universal half-holiday. At the present time a majority of the members were Saturday shots. It was therefore impossible for all members to attend on the same day. He asked those members present to do all they could to induce others to attend regularly for practice. The fact that over 80 members had gone to the front, many of them as officers and noncommissioned officers, showed that the, club was doing good work. An important alteration to the rules of the club was made at the annual meeting, whereby honorary members are now allowed to compete for all prizes and trophies on the same conditions as active members. Territorials will now be able to join as honorary members, and club members will be pleased to do all they can to teach them to shoot. The prizes were then presented to the winners, a list of whom has already been published. Cheers were given for the champion, Rifleman W. Oliver; the winner of the Saturday Cup, Rifleman C. H. Moore; and Saturday cup, Rifleman C. H. Drew. The last-named is now in training in England. Three cheers were also given to the ladies.
