RETURNED MEN.
PROGRESS STATEMENT. By aeiegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, September 29. The latest progress statement issued by the 'Discharged Soldiers' Information Department shows that on September 27 the number of men on the register was 5515. Of these 4494. cases tad been disposed of, 711 were still uiuhr action, and 310 were men convalescing and not ready for employment and not yet discharged by the military authoritiesi Of the 4494 cases disposed of, IS2O men have work to return to, have re-enlist-ed, or have returned to military duty, etc., while 1049 have been placed in employment; 142 have left New Zealand or their addresses cannot be ascertained; 315 Jvavc not yet responded to repeated communications, or have acepted work the Department found for them, 'but failed to start work; and 135 have drawn sections of land. Of 711 cases still under action, 247 are at present on "the employment wanted register."
