WAITARA.
I (From Our Own Correspondent.) t'Alr. T. West's horse and empty gig caused some excitement here on Katuri ay afternoon by bolting towards home, , .nd as Win. Brown was handy in his . .aotor-car he gave quick pursuit. However, .the horse got the hest of the race, I and finished close to Tikorangi, where he struck a fencing post, which .threw him and the gig 'over. I understand | the damage will not amount to much. Messrs Borthwiek have got their barge oft the beach below Kiangnui, and it is now in port. She will need some repairs, having been strained by the heavy seas. The Waitara Municipal Band have been.very busy lately hi going into the ways and means of getting a baiuUroom, and a start was made last .Saturday by a-working bee'in laying the concrete foundation of the much-needed revm. Quite a crowd followed the territorials and cadets, headed by the band, to the church parade on Sunday, where the Rev. Ci B. -Hinton was at bis best in delivering bis sermon, "The XeecU and Call of the Empire." Mr. D. Tate, of the local office of the Northern Steamship Company, has received word of bis promotion to the Company's office at Auckland, ami I understand he takes up bis new duties in about a week's time.
