TARANAKI FIRE BOARD
■ QUARTERLY MEETING, The quarterly meeting of the Hawera Five Board was hold on Wednesday. Present: Messrs. R, I). Welsh (chairman), .1. Pa ton, H. Stoelccr, E. W. Garner, A. Reid, L. A. lione. Leave of iu.sencc was granted to Mr. E (J. Hayton. A letter was receivd from Mr. F. P. Corkill, New Plymouth, forwarding his resignation as a member of tlio Board. A communication was read from the Minister of Internal Affairs, notifying the appointment of Mr. E. W. Clamor to tiie vacancy caused by the rcsicnation of Mr. Corkill. The chairman, on behalf of the members, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Garner, aiul said he was sure that his relations with tile Board would be of a happy nature. Mr. Garner briefly thanked the chairman for his kindly remarks. The chairman said members of the Board woudl regret that Mr. Corkill bad severed his connection with the Board after a continuous service with the Board since its inception. He paid a tribute to Mr. Corkill for the excellent I services rendered by bim while on the I Board, and moved- "That the Board accepts the same with much regret. The lioi.'rd records the faithful service rendered by Mr. Corkill throughout his membership, continuous since the incorporation of the Board." Mr. A. Reid seconded the motioh, which was carried. Superintendent Pcttctt, in liis quarterly report, stated that four calls wero midc on the Brigade during the quarter, the fire loss being on uninsured property £l7, and on insured £l. All plant and grrr was in good order. The membership was rather low, the station stall' suffering' most. This must be expected for some tune yet. During the last quarter five members bad' resigned, through having to leave the district, one hail been struck oil the roll for not attending, and one had loft to go into camp, while, seven had joined the Brip.ide, leaving the membership at IS all told. The water pressure bad been very satisfactory, the lowest pressure being uolLs, and the highest SOlbß. The motor tender was proving very satisfactory, and bad ( given no trouble since tiling installed. The electric fire alarms were working very satisfactorily, two of the calls having been received over it. The Superintendent, in conclusion, congratulated the town upon the abcenee of any serious lires during the quarter. Fireman .T. Blake was appointed assistant stationkeeper. . j'eplying to a question, the Siipcrini'.iultnt said that the street lire alarms were tested regularly every week so as to ensure the system being in thorough working order. Hie members of the Board were taken for a run on the new motor tender, for the benefit of the New Plymouth member-. who expressed themselves as being >vcli pleased with the turn-out.—Star.
