At a meeting of the general committee of the Egmont Racing Club "last week, a letter was received from Dr. MacDiarmid, declining the position of honorary surgeon, and it was decided to write to Dr. MacDiarmid thanking him for his past services and regretting that he could ,not sec his way clear to accep; office.' The chairman reported that the Government income tax had been paid under protest. The following alterations to the programme for the summer meeting, as suggested by the Programme Committee, were adopted:—To increase the hurdle races each day by 20 sovs.; to increase the. Ladies' Purse and Farmers' Plate from 60 sovs. each to 100 sovs.; to increase the welter Taces each day from 175 to 200 sovs. A communication from the secretary of the Taranaki Horse. Trainers' Association with reference to the erection of steeplechase schooling jumps, was referred to a subcommittee to deal with.
