CHINA AND JAPAN.
AMERICA ASKS FOR INFORMATION. JAPANESE REPLY. Australian-X.Z. Cable Association. Washington, September 12. The American Ambassador. Mr. Guthrie, was instructed on September 6 to ask Japan for a statement that would furnish information to the Foreign Office, as the first .press reports of tbe Japanese demands greatly disturbed the American Government, iwhic'li trusted tliev were untrue. The Japanese Foreign Minister has replied that some, of the press reports were approximately tine, but others were colored, being a mixture of untruth and exaggeration.
