I ■ STORMBIRD INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The nautical inquiry into the wredC of the steamer Stormbird was opened to-day before Mr. W. Kerr, S.M., and Captains Holm and Irvine, assessors. Captain Gibson, master of the wrecked vessel, said the wreck was the result of a combination of circumstances. When the steamer reached the entrance of the river a bi" sea came aboard an.? flooded the fore dock and the vessel fell away„ The helm was ported, but the vessel re-, fused to respond and was carried into tho south mole and wrecked. At tha time of the accident there was an abnormal southerly set of tide. The in< quiry is proceeding.
