SWIMMiNjS AND SURFING AND LIFE-SAVING. There were a dozen persons present at the Town Hall last night, at the final meeting of the New Plymouth Surf and ' Life-Saving Club, Mr." D. J. Hughes (president) being in the chair. The balance-sheet, audited to August 2, showed receipts £2O 9s 3d, and expenditure £l4 Is Sd, leaving a credit balance of £0 7s 7d. "Tho application from New Plymouth had been duly forwarded to Mr. Henry, the Chief Secretary. The Dominion's Executive would welcome the appointment of a delegate until tho North Taranaki Centre is constitutionally confirmed from London, and he (Mr. Bassett) would suggest names. A Government grant of £75 to the Society was expected shortly, and the Centre certainly deserved some help from this. A full stock of awards, ete., was now foeinji landed, and would the Centre require any? Copies of tlm Centre's constitution and by-laws had been received, and they seemed to have been very carefully drafted, and complete. On the motion of Messrs. W. C. Westqji and Christiansen, it was resolved that Mr. Bassett be written to and requested to appoint delegates. Messrs, W. K. Dockrill (New Plymouth), (I Seabright (lnglewood), and Mildenhall, were appointed members of the Centre. The Okau School was also admitted to membership. It was stated that the Centre had at present 93 members, including several schools. The meeting agreed that as opportunity offered life-saving demonstrations should be given at the Okau, Kalmatft, lnglewood, Tariki, and Opunako Schools, and at others if requested. Mr. W, C. Weston kindly offered to provide a motor-ear for the conveyauce of tlib instructors. Miss White and the secretary were empowered to obtain from the Head Centre all the necessary examination papers, books of instructions, medallions, etc., and it was decided to ask Drs. Wade and Blaekley 'to act as honorary medical officers. Mr. C, T. Mills moved: "That this meeting records a vote of appreciation of the good work performed by the members of the late New Plymouth Life-Saving Society, now merged into a wider sphere of operation in forming a North Taranaki branch of the Royal Life-Saving Society, and especially to Messrs Fletcher and Ainsworth, the founders of f.\\c old olub."—Seconded by Mr. Stohr and carried. The chairman and Mr. Weston were deputed to arrange for the purchase of a typewriter for the use of the secretary. Accounts amounting to 14s were passed. Hisses Dowling and White, Messrs. Schwar7„ Jackson. Christianen, McMurray, Mahoncy (Hawera), and Culliford (Eltharn), wero appointed instructors under the Society's rules, and Misses White, Dowling, Messrs. Gilbert, Schwarz.
