Both gentlemen admitted they had received notice of the meeting, but had failed to notice the date. It is pleasing to think that there are busy men in the district who are prepared to give their .valuable time and assistance in trying to do something for those who have returned from fighting our battles at the front. An irate mother was to be seen yesterday taking her two children along to a local resident to complain of the pranks of the resident's young hopeful. It appears tint two lads were coming home from school, and a tar pot, being handy, the hopeful with Hie help of a confederate plunged the arms of the two boys in the pot, almost up to the shoulders, and the rest may well he left to the reader's imagination. The "hopeful," when he arrived home, denied the imputation that he would be found carrying out such a joke, and, after further explanations, the mother and her charges departed. It is not reported what the mother said when the children first made their appearance at their home in the condition they wer» in.

A most successful send-off social and dance was held at Midhirst last evening, when Privates Ustallu, Signal and Head were presented with useful articles as a- slight token of the esteem in which they are held by the Midhirst folk. Private W. M. Cuff, who was killed in France, was well known in Stratford. He left wth the 7th Reinforcements. Trior to leaving here he was assisting his brother. Mr. A, F. Cuff, in his Stratford business.
