A MOTORIST SHOT.
EY A GARAGE CARETAKER By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, September 10. The firing of a pea-rille in a motor garage on Friday night resulted in the admission of a wounded man to the 'hospital, and the appearance of John Brown, caretaker of the garage, in the Police Court yesterday, charged with attempted murder. A remand was granted. According to the police, « taxidriver named Conway had hired a locker in Henning's garage, and late on Friday night he drove to the garage in the car, accompanied by a returned soldier named Francis Kelly. They were admitted by Brown, ami are said io have annoyed ■him. Brown endeavored to get away from them, and attempted to shut 'the door of his private room against them, lie failed, and is then alleged to have taken up a pea ride with the object of intimidating them. A shot was fired and Kelly was wounded. Brown immediately summoned the police, and told his .story frankly. Kelly insisted on leaving the hospital after treatment, and walked the streets all night, with the result that he is this afternoon in a rather serious condition j
