THE TONGARIRO.

FURTHER ATTEMPT AT SALVAOft. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. According to latest advises from th# wreck all that remains of the Tongariro is the fore portion which Is awash. At the end of the week another attempt is to he made to salvage the cargo. Various methods will be tried and will be decided upon after a thorough ini speetion of the wreck as it then stands. The inquiry into the wreck will bo held at Wellington next Friday, instead. of at Napier. 6ERIOUS LOSS OF RENNET, CHEESE FACTORIES MAY HAVE HQ , CLOSE DOWN. Napier, Sept. B. "'- Included in the cargo of the Tonga* tiro was 80 ten-gallon casks of rennet, an importation used in the production of cheese. Recent shortages of this material made New Zealand prices since the war rise rapidly to previously unknown values, and to-day rennet is quoted at £i per gallon Approximately eaeh of the casks on the Tongftriro contained ten gallons, which makes the total value of the shipment at least £3200. The actual financial losses represented by the sinking of the rennet will be nothing compared to the incon* venience caused, as the cheese factories arc short of the coagulating substance, * and those who have lost their suppliea by the wreck will have to close downThe loss chiefly concerns Wellington, tflj which port the shipment was consigned. There were also 3(10 casks of whisky; aboard the Tongariro, and as both these products float a keen look-out ia being) kept at the scene of the wreck. At the time of the wreck the knowledge. that so much rennet was on board waa limited, otherwise an effort would have been made to secure it. Several casks have been picked up, the quantity of bulk whisky so far secured being, fifty casks. The derricks were yesterday removed from the Tongariro, much other salvage having been secured.
