STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday. A motor cycle on fire caused sonic excitement in Broadway on Sunday afternoon. After a well-known bank official had tried to quell the flames with a hose, a sack was thrown oier the machine and the Jire quenched. The machine, needless to say, was considerably damaged. Tha Borough Council are certainly nni to he commended on the new rubbish depot they have established in Brondway North. Street sweeping may be alright on the new filling, but when it comes to putting all the old tins, hones, papers, and rusty hoops on the road, itis time to complain. If a private individual put the same things on a road he would be prosecuted for depositing rubbish in a public place. The action of (he Stratford DomainBoard in refusing to allow the Borough Council a small strip of land, in the Domain, abutting on Page Street, for a crusher site is to be regretted. The suggested site would certainly be an improvement to the present one, and it would do away with the unsightly nppearanee that the entrance to theDomain has at present, loads of stone on each side of the walk. It is all vi'ry well for the Board to say they have no power to allow the Council the strip of land asked for. la years gone by hundreds of yards of gravel were removed from the domain, and the property was certainly not improved by so doing. If they allowed this gravel to be removed surely they can allow the Council the permission they now ask. The Board should help the Council in every way, and the Council might assist the Domain Board by giving a subsidy towards the upkeep, of the Domains of the town.
