AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
(MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Taranaki A. and P. Society met on Saturday afternoon, Mr. J. S. Conuett (president) being in the chair. Other members present were: Messrs. J. R. Hill, H. (.'. Samp-son, A. Lister, J. R. Rowlands, W. Hall, N. Hall, C Andrews, W. B. Grant, C. Reube and A. T. Moore. The President reported in reference to the 7 1 /; acres of the Rewa Rewa ride range that Mr. Okey had seen Hon. .Jas. Allen, but could not get any satisfaction. However, Major Cox had been seen at Haweia, and it had been decided to go on with the building scheme at Waiwakaiho, and encroach on the reserve. This had been reported by the caretaker to Hawera, and the upshot was that Major Cox was quite in sympathy with the work the Society wished to undertake, and flip i.i endeavoring to get the matter put through on sound lines. He was trying to have the lease of the reserve with the Meat Company broken, and to get the land vested in the Society for 21 years. With reference to the acreage competition for whidh Mr. Gautml (Waitara) had promised prizes, the onimitteo were awaiting word from other people and it was hoped to get the competition under way earlier this season than previously. The working-bees at the racecourse had been well attended, and the work on the new grounds at Waiwakaiho was progressing well. The schedule of the potato classes as revised by Messrs. L. B. Webster and Heak-i' was submitted and approved. The recommendations of tihe executive committee as carried the previous week were agreed to. A list of outstanding subscriptions was read. The chairman reported that to date subscriptions amounted to £O3D, donations £537 as, and debentures taken up £llO7 10*. It was stated by the chairman that the ring at Waiwakaiho had been completed, and the earthwork Irad been practica'*y finished. The loose boxes bad been finished, and Mr. Browne was proceeding with the erection of fihe. cattle pens. The question, of grassing the ring had to be considered. Mr. Messenger is preparing plans for the grand stand, and it was hoped by the ground* committee to have it erected in concrete, but it was too soon yet to say wliat the cost would be,. There wore 250 yards of stone, taken out of the ring bed, stacked, and as the crusher was in the vicinity the committee should get the services of the machine for a couple of days. It would not be necessary to crush it all. The tree planting should be proceeded with. It was agreed that .the schedule for the
! next Show be drawn up as ea'rly as possible, and the following were appointed stewards, with power to add, to revise the classes in the various sections and report at next meeting:— Light liflrsas, Mr. Watson; draughts, Messrs. R. Johnson and Andrews; cattle, Messrs. H. 'C. Sampson and Hall; sheep ond pigs, Messrs. Graint and Lister; dog*. Mr. .Moore; green feed competition. Messrs. Rowlands and Blackball; paddock accommodation, etc., Mr. G. Colson; green feed, Mr. F. Andrews. It was decided to hold a working bee at the new grounds on Wednesday next.
