New Plymouth has responded splendidly to the various calls made for patriotic purposes, but yet there is ohe section of those who are nobly serving the Empire that has—not neglectfully—been somewhat overlooked so far. Though not in the firing line, this section is "lighting," really lighting, quietly and unostentatiously, seeking no reward save that in the knowledge that they have done and are doing their very best. We refer to the nurses and medical orderlies. Little is heard of Christmas comforts for them, and yet they are doing their "whack"— and a wonderfully big "whack" it is—for the Empire, just as much as the boys in the trenches. To provide Christmas comforts for the nurses and order lies, the Flower Day Committee have decided that after next Saturday the proceeds from sales of flowers will, for two or three weeks, be devoted to the Nurses' Fund. In the meantime Mrs. C. H. Burgess, the Mayoress, will oe gla" to receive and acknowledge any donations towards this most deserving object, one that should not appeal in vain to North Taranaki people.
