Mr, John Hopkins has arrived in Xpw Plymouth to arrange for the early appearance of "The Dandies." iPioneer Sergt. W. F, Southam, reported wounded, belongs to Xew Plymouth, and he le f t New Zealand with the Main Body of the Expeditionary Force. Sergeant H. Frnser, of the 19th Reinforcements, who has been in New Plymouth for a few days on sick leave,'will return to camp on Monday morning. The Bank of New Zealand's board of directors have appointed Mr. R. W. Kane tc the extraordinary vacancy on the directorate caused by the death of Mr. Martin Kennedy. Word has been received that Sapper J. A. Campbell, of the 14th Reinforcements, died it sea before reaching England. Sapper Campbell, who was wellknown in New Plymouth, was a son-in-law of Mr. John Abbott, senr. Mr. C. l'\ Dows«tt, engineer to the Clifton County Council, who has been confined to bis house during the past three weeks, had so far recovered as to be able to attend the meeting of the Council for a little while yesterday. Mrs. Davies, daughter of Archdeacon Henry Williams, one of the earliest missionaries to New Zealand, is still alive, and residing hi Napier. She is over ninety-six years of age, and is possessed of a wonderfully retentive memory and an active mind. The death is announced of Mr. C. E. Kennel 1 , which took place early yesterday morning. Deceased, who had been in failing health for some time, was in the employ of Mr. V. \Y. Hall, chemist, and was very popular. He was an enthusiastic tennis .player and amateur photographer. The Dunedin correspondent of the Lyttelton Times states that Mr. T. K. Sidey, who has represented Caversham since 1001 and is the author of the Daylight Saving Bill, on which the National Government sustained its only defeat since coming into being, has been seriously considering the question of his retirement from politics at the end of the present Parliamentary term, but before doing anything definite he will confer with his committees.
