Brisbane, August 31. The l-eijislativa Council passed the Bill for the six o'clock closing of hotels through all stages as a war emergency measure. The Government represetative opposed the measure, Sydney, August 31. Cabinet has decided on absolute lis o'clock closing of hotels, making it an offence for the licensee to sell soft drinks after hours, *nd the suspension of the local option vote at the next elections, AMERICAN RAILWAY TROUBLE. New York, August 30. The Pennsylvania Railway announces that because of -the impending strike, combustibiles in any form will not be carried after Thursday, and live stock and all perishable goods will not be carried after Saturday. Other leading railroads make similar announcements of shipment embargoes. STRIKE SETTLED. Perth, August 31. The miners' dispute at ICalgoorlit has been settled, the men agreeing to submit the questions whether the men who are the cause of the strike are aliens to a special tribunal. A BIG LAW SUIT New Yorli, August 30. Tlje largest suit in the history of the Federal Courts has been begun by five stockholders in the Nnw York-New-haven-Hartford Railway. They demand that the estate of the late J. P. Morgan restore ICO million dollars to the railway, which they declare it lost through Morgan's efforts to create a New England transportation monopoly.
