Writes a Patea boy from France:— Last Sunday one of our aeroplanes was brought down not far from here by Hun gunfire, the pilot's left arm being coinplctely severed just above the elbow. This did not prevent liim from 'landing safely, for the machine, though badly crippled 'by a great hole in one of the frames, was so heroically manned that she made a good landing in a/field quite close to a hospital. Stretcher-bearers were immediately on the spot, and the unlucky pilot was soon carried oft" to have his wounds attended to. Despite the evident pain which lie was suffering his spirits were of the best. "The beggars have got me at last, though they've, been a jolly long time at it," 'he laugh- ! ingly said before being carried away.
