SATURDAY'S FLOWER DAY. It was fitting that glorious surwhtiW and a beautiful s-pring-'ike day should prevail on the efforts of those who have teen for the past few weeks doing "a little extra" for the suffering Belgian children, by means of. gelling flowers in the streets. No wonder, when the energy of vendors and the choiceness of their ware are to bo taken imto consideration. On Saturday there were flowers everywhere, and unlucky was lie or she who did not have a buttonhole or nosegay before the day was ended. From nine o'clock until after five, when the 'shutters were put up" in Mr. Xewton King's premises, near Hookham's corner, literally oceans of flowers were sent forth, and t'hey found ready purchasers. In charge of the main depot were Mrs. Burgess, Mrs. Ransom, Misses Fabian, Sole, Pardy, Foote, and Grant, and these ladies had a busy <l#y indeed. A heavily-laden handcart, with the sweetest of spring ijmvers, was freely patronised, and numerous girl? and boys were übiquitous in cajoling coins in exchange for dainty posies. The proceeds from the sale of flowers amounted to £lB 15* lOd. Tickets for the doll's house, presented by Mre. E. A. Walker, sold readily during the day, and the raffle, which was sanctioned by the Minister of Internal Affairs, w -< in the evening, the winner be "rraefl Okey, Frankley Road.
