MR. YOUNG'S REPLY TO CRITICISMS. . By Telegraph.—Press Association Wellington, Last Night. In reply to criticisms and statement telegraphed from Auckland, Mr. Younf, secretary of the Seamen's Union, has asked that the. stamen's side, of the cJwe should also be given publicity. .In reference to the question of affiliating with any Parliamentary party or other bodv outside the Seamen's Union, lie said that no such affiliation can take place, unless the national membership decides in favor by a big plebiscite vote. Referring to centralisation powers. Mr. Young said the power waa now centralised in ten persons. Tha Auckland representatives proposed toi rest that power in three persons, Oon» cerning the question of pooling all finances, it was adopted by the council by a substantial majority. At least 85 per cent, of the New Zealand membership was in accord with it. Ren ferring to tho complaint regarding lacK of information of the business done by the' Council, he said this was not made public in the interests of the seamen. The only reference on the agenda paper to the Military Service Bill was a remit from Auckland protesting against Mr. Allen's amendment, that 6eamen • should sign on transports for a period of war, and agree •to undergo certain discipline. Mr. Young, said lie was convinced the suggestion that the union was syndicalistic came from outside persons, with the ulterior motive of splitting and weakening the organisation. As far as he knew none of the union officials believed in syndicalist!. He concluded by saying the session was exceptionally harmonious, there being - no distentions and ninety per cent, of the' resolutions were adopted unanimously.
