A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR.
RETURNED SOLDIER'S EXPERIENCE. While three men—Messrs. A. Mnllins, Hugh Hayes, and another—were walking along a road near Maxwclltown on .Monday afternoon (says the Wanganui Chronicle) they heard a man's voice in a thick clump of furze, and on making an investigation they found a returned soldier in an exhausted and delirious state His dollies were soaking wet, and his hands were covered with scratches from the furze. The man was removed to Mr. Rrcd Handlcy's residence, where he received every kindness and was well looked after, and subsequently placed in the hospital. It transpired that he had been working for Mr. Fred Moore, at Nnkumaru, and left there on Saturday with, the object of corning into town for a few days. His subsequent movements, up to the time when he was found, are not known. It is evident that the returned soldier was out in all the rough weather experienced since Saturday It is a fortunate matter that he was discovered, a s it is probable that he would have soon succumbed to exposure,
