THE ASSIAGO PLATEAU. AUSTRIAN ATTACK'S REPULSED, Received August 21, 5.5 p.m. Rome, August 20. A communique reports: We repulsed attacks on the Assiago plateau and against positions on the right bank of the the Aasa and the slopes of Mount Zebro. A wireless message reports that the Austrian*, before abandoning Gorizia, plundered the museums and libraries and removed a valuable collection of medals.
A SETTLED PLAN. ITALIAN'S' PROSPECTS. London, August 20. Colonel Repington predicts the speedy capture of the heights east of Gorizia, enabling the Italians to assail the Carso on two sides. The main action will continue on the Carso line, in the direction of Laibach, Trieste and Fiume. RUTHLESS AUSTRIAN METHODS. Received Lugust 21, 5.5 p.m. L„r.do:i, August 20. An Italian wireless reports: Austrian prisoners captured at Carso stated they v.'ere ordered not io take prisoners, except in large mass>;». Italians who were taken in small groups., were to be killed. ESTIMATED AUSTRIAN LOSSES. Rome, August 20. The official esti ate of the Austrian losses on the Isonzo bet.vecn August 0 and 17 is 05.000, and 22,000 prisoners.
