HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board was lield I yesterday, when there were present: Messrs J. B. Connett (chairman), Newton King, C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., C. E. Bellringer, H Maxwell. J. B. Mars., and D. J. Hughes. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs E. Dockrill and J. McCluggage. HARBORMASTER'S REPORT The -harbormaster (Captain Waller) reported that the arrivals at the port for the four weeks ending on the 12th inst. eonsisted of 10 steamships, aggregating 15,006 tons. There were two intercolonial stealers, the Kakapo, from Newcastle, with coal, and fthe Petone, from Melbourne, with phosphates. The imports amounted to sfloo tons, including 17M ton 3 of coal, 1473 tons being, for private use and 320 tons for the Railway Department. The exports for the same period amounted to 593 tons, a total of 040!) tons handled. The 'harbor was sounded on the 10th anil 11 fh instant, there being 24ft at I.w.s.t, in the channel from the wharf to the sea and 28ft to 30ft lit the wiiarfV , SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. Mr. F. Henderson, superintendent of works, sported that the Paritutu fli'ad drodgedjon 19 days, the net time being 10!) hours. Fifty-seven loads of spoil,' equal to 20,400 tons, were removed. Details of dredging were as follows: At tho western fairway, 93 hours in lifting 22 loads with the. buckets and 52 hours in lifting 19 loads with the sand pump; and at t'lie outer fairway, 24 hours in lifting 10 loads with tho sand pump. Five days were lost through rough weather. During part of this time the boiler was blown out for quarterly cleaning. The weather throughout the month had been stormy and" unsettled and unfavorable for dredging.

The Thomas King worked on 15 days, the' net time being 141 hours, and removed !)0 loads of spoil, equal to 7200 tons. The forward hand winch of this :lredge broke down some days ago, and is beyond repair. A new one was urgently required for t'he purpose of manipulating tho -hopper doors and mooring chains. ■;

General.—The piles for the dolphin mooring have been driven and the work is nearly completed. Some of the parapet blocks on the breakwater liave been displaced during the recent rougli weather. They are being replaced anil secured. The clearing of the reserve from gorse and blackberry and the fencing of tho outer boundary have been c.omnletcd.
