The recent remarks made by the Bishop of London, suggesting that women should be conditionally permitted to deliver addresses in the churches, have aroused active controversy. 'The Bishop explains that lie never intended to permit women preachers, and asks the clergy to suspend their opinions till lie confers with tliem. DESTRUCTIVE EARTHQUAKE , Rome, August 10.
