IRAVJiL! \S TALES AND VALET'S GOSSIP. Received August 17, 7.30 p.m. Melbourne, August 17. Mr. P. W. Tewkesbury has returned from a trip abroad. He states that while in London two days before Lord Kitchener was drowned, he was in tho same hospital as Kitchener's valet. The latter told a number of persons he was going to Russia with Kitchener. Mr, Tewkesbury wa s surprised and shocked at tlie want of secrecy concerning Kitchener's movements. It was also generally rumored in London that the Arabia was carrying a large quantity of bullion, and it was subsequently contended that that was the reason she wa" torpedoed. CASUALTIES AT POZIERE* Received August 17, 9,5 p.n:. Sydney, August 17. To-day's casualty lists partly reveal the cost at Pozieres and Armentieres.
