At the Supreme Court, James Connor. was convicted o,f receiving £Ol worth of medicines and patent medicines, knowing them to be stolen. Sentence v.'as deferred. Joseph, Lewis, lion, secretary of the Wellington Patriotic Society, sued Stanley H. Horner, for £5Ol, damages for alleged slander. The case e.vcited considerable interest, and lengthy evidence was taken. The jury returned averdicfc for defendant. The judge remarked that the result of the trial did not cast any imputation on the plaintiff or tin Patriotic Society. PUBLIC SERVANTS WAR BQNUS. Wellington. Last Night. Questioned by a reporter as to ttic method to be adopted in regard to yayment of war bonus to public servants, a subject which is arousing a good deal of interest in public service circles just now, the Minister for Finance (Sir Joseph Ward) stated that the matter will'.eoios up for final settlement at a Cabinet meeting on Saturday next, and that an announcement will .be made as soon as possible. A SHOOTING CASE Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court, Joseph Boucher was charged with having, on July 22nd, shot at Arthur Stephen Durling, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The affair arose out of a disagreement in Boucher's house, where • Hurling boarded. Boucher was committed for trial.
