HUNTING.

NORTH TARANAKI HOUNDS. The North Taranaki Hunt met at Mr. T. Sampson's, Sentry Hill, on Thursday. Then; was ft good muster, the weather being very favorable. Tlie country had been nicely prepared and soon after tlirowing off a hare gave the field a good run for about a couple of miles before it again ran to cover and eluded the pack. Some time elapsed before another pussy was discovered, but this gave the pack a most exciting run. It traversed a considerable area of country at a merry pace, but the hounds were working well and closely followed the scent. The "straight goers" had any amount of jumping en route and ultimately the hare crossed the railway line. Still the pack hung on until in the end the hare adopted a most unusual course by swimming the river and thus the hounds lost the scent. However, the run was a memorable one, and when the company returned to the homestead the afternoon was well advanced. The members of the Hunt and their friends were entertained by Mr. ami Miss Sampson and before dispersing, (lie Master, Mr. A. 11. Halcombe, tendered the thanks of the Hunt to them for their hospitality and also for the use of their property. Mr. Halcombe also thanked the adjoining property owners for allowing the Hunt the use of their farms.
