Cardinal Hartmaim, replying to the Pope on behalf of the German Government, says that owing to the difficulty i n feeding the dense populations of tiie towns of France a number of the inhabitants have been deported for agricultural work. They will be repatriated when the agricultural campaign is finished. They are well treated and are allowed to communcate with their families. FATAL EXPLOSION OF MUNITIONS. Amsterdam, August 9. Vast stores of munitions, captured from the Russians at the battle of Tannenburg, were placed in Konigsberg Camp. They exploded and killed 50 and wounded 72. German papers are debarred from mentioning the cause. Several officers have been arrested.
