J PURSUIT OF TURKS. J London ,August 8. All Egyptian official message says: Our mounted men are ill contact with the Turkish rearguard six miles eastward of Katia, where the Turks constructed trenches when they began their advance. We are clearing the battlefield. We have buried two hundred in the area of Friday's counter-attack. Aeroplanes bombed Port Said and Suez, doing little material damage, and causing slight casualties. THE TURKISH VERSION. Amsterdam, August 8. The first mention of Romani in the Turkish communique is characteristically evasive. It euphemistically describes the battle as an encounter between our advance detachments and the enemy cavalry. The result is not mentioned. After some irrelevancy, the statement concluded: "The prisoners taken at the fall at Kut were 12,597." ENEMY'S DESERT MARCH. London, August 8. Brigadier-General Ryrie, of the Australian Mounted Force, interviewed concerning the Romani fight, said: ''lt is a revelation to find the Turks able to bring lioavv howitzers over the most difficult desert. They apparently drank water which was too brackish for 11s. It was a marvellous performance to bring 14,- • 000 men, guns and supplies over the ■ desert. It was the oldest road in the world, but it was covered with •'-"ift .
