At the annual meeting of the Victoria Racing Club, the President moved to have the Gaming Act amended so as to permit of the establishment of the f talisator. He made a lengthy comparison between the receipts of the V.R.C. and the Canterbury Club. The former, received :C14,(I00 from bookmakers' fees; the latter, through the totalisator, received sufficient to provide. £.17,840 in stakes, against the . Victorian Club's £72,340, while the population of Melbourne was ten times greater. The committee expressed sympathy with the Government's efforts to curtail racing.
