[ Wellington, August 7. The auxiliary scow Echo, wliich left Wellington this morning;, ran into the easterly gale raging in the Strait. Four men put oil' from her in a surf-boat to land stores at Riddiford's station, Orongoronga. The boat was swamped and the stores were lost. The men got ashore, and are coming back to Wellington by train. The boat is now hauled up on the beach. SUPREME COURT. Wellington, August 7. At the Supreme Court, James Robertson was convicted of indecent exposure in the. Sydney street cemetery. Karl Anderson was found guilty of assaulting and injuring two men, Canning and Ho'brooke, ou the steamer Tainui. all being members of the ship's crew. Both prisoners were remanded for sentence. PUNISHMENT OF~ABSENTEE SOLDIERS. Wellington, Last Night. Eighteen members of the 13th Reinforcements, who missqd their ship at an Australian port of call, were tried by court-martial last week, on charges of desertion and being absent without leave. The decisions of the court were confirmed by f- e commandant, and have now been announced. Six of the accused were acquitted on both charges, the balance being found not guilty of desertion, but guilty of being absent without leave. Seven were sentenced to seven days' detention, four to fourteen days, and one to twenty-eight days. The whole of the twelve men. convicted were also ordered to forfeit their pay during the 57. days they had already been kept in detention. More severe penalties will be imposed in future cases. The officers comprising the courtmartial were Lieut.-Colonel Moorhouse, president; Major Hollis, Captains Short and Fairbairn. Their decjision was confirmed by Commandant BrigadierGeneral Robin.
