To the Editor. j Sir,—A paragraph in yours of .Saturday, July 2t), wherein tiie S.M. at Haworn, expressed surprise that heifers 1 should be calving at two years, and a 1 witness who said he had been dealing in stock all his life, and that 110 sensible 1 man would allow- such a thing I can ' only say I am sorry for their ignorance, as no up-to-date farmer will allow them to be older, as he knows that it makes a great difference to his profits 'by lmv. : ing them calve early, and if properly ! looked after in the matter of feeding ! make better milkers and <lo not stunt ' their growth either. In my herd of 14, all my own breeding except one, only three have been >ver two years, and ' two of them considerably under, ar;d I 1 would invite any of these men to come and see whether they look bad by saving been so. I know one that calved at 15 months brought me in £lO for butter-fat, and J was none the worse for it. The others have done and are d<pg ' well. Am I a sensible man?—l am, etc., '] • GEO. I.
