EXPANSION OF THE FORESHORE. |

The chairman reported on the build* ins proposals, on which a committee had ben set up to enquire and' report, lie read the suggestion that had been made to form a public company, with! a capital of £3OOO to carry out tha scheme. The e.itinuued rental of twenty) cottages was €2O each, but the committee could feel certain that it would amount to considerably more than this. ; There had been a lot of delay in the matter, but recently the mercantile firm that had been approached had replied favorably, on condition that 5s per share \va s called up beforehand. This, he (the chairman) thought too much for a first call. One thin"', he said, was that if the scheme were proceeded with, a charge should be made for the use of the bathing shed. Over 150 applications "iad been made for bathing cottages- last year. He was satisfied that the whole sum of £3OOO wopld be refunded within seven years. lie did not think there was any danger of the Harbor Board taking over the foreshore, and there was little likelihood of harbor works coming north of the Pioneer Road. He thought steps should be taken immediately to float a company, and that a call of Is. per share on applications and Is on all lotment, would suffice.

Mr. J. C. Morcy said that Ngamotu. was one of the finest assets possessed by New Plymouth. .Country folk had said that the townspeople were not doing enough for visitors.' The schema was, he considered, a very feasible one, and it would be of benefit to both town and country. Mr. J. Clarke said that the Borough Council was the only body that could or should sign a jnint and several to finance a scheme. He thought the Harbor Board should give a lease of the, reserves for at least five years, instead of yearly. The short period of lease appeared to be the only fault with the scheme. Mr. D. J. Hughes said that the Harbor Board could only give a yearly tenancy. Mr. Ellis remarked that he did not believe for one instant in the. 'insecurity of tenure scare; the Harbor Board would i;ot think of turning them out. After further discussion, Mr. J. Clarke moved that the new executive be recommended .to proceed forthwith with the flotation qj a company on the ilnes of the proposed scheme. The motion was seconded by Mr R. : McQuade, and carried. On the .motion of Messrs. Hughes and E. Gilmour, it was resolved that it be a, recommendation that shares be £1 each, and not more than 2s per share per ffdled upon on application and allotment.

Several of those present undertook to subscribe for shares to the extent of over 100 or less apiece. On the motion of Mr. J. Clarke, a hearty vote of thanks' was accorded the out-going committee, especially till chairman and secretary.
