NGAMOTU FORESHORE.
animal meeting called "by the Ngamotn Seaside Committee for last evening did not eventuate, owing to the sparse attendance, the .wintry weather having evidently dampened the enthusiasm of the large majority of members and residents, It was decided by those present to adjourn until Tuesday evening next. . AXXUAL REPORT. The following is the Teport to be submitted to the meeting:'— The year's work has been a very successful one. We commenced operations with n debit balance of £l2 (is 3d,,and we now find ourselves with £4l 14s Sd to our credit. This is in a gteat measure due to the handsome donation of £2O by his Worship the Mayor, and £8 6s from the Taranaki Amusements, Ltd. The balance of donations and subscriptions amount to £(i 7s Od. Our annual picnic, on New Year's Day resulted in a nett profit of £O7, the gross takings being over £llO. The sum of £lO2 was spent on improvements. Last spring the committee made an endeavor to increase the bathing accommodation, and, with the help of a few supporters, a joint and several resulted in the erection of a ladies' bathing bungalow, built of Polite and Marsailles tiles, the material'costing nearly £7O. The building is a distinct improvement to the architecture of the beach. With the help of many willing hands the bungalow was completed in three weeks, and the overdraft was paid off on Ist of January. The accommodation all through the season was sorely taxed, and on numerous occasions it was impossible for a large number of people to use the bathing-houses, necessitating the use of the shady lupins. On one. occasion, not a holiday, over 500 bathers were counted in the sea at one time. The executive deplores the unavoidable inconvenience that took place last season, but pavilions and conveniences do not grow out of the sand, and the coming of the trams has given a good deal of anxious thought. A sub-committee was set up to go into ways and means for the erection of a pavilion and other conveniences, and they have come to the conclusion that the only way to go ahead is to endeavor to raise money, and use it on reproductive, works. A scheme was devised to raise £3OOO for the erection of 20 seaside bungalows, a bathing pavilion, tea kiosk, and a water chute, which would return a gross revenue of £OOO per annum, and could be repaid, together with principal and interest, in rather less than seven years. An opportunity of discussing this will be afforded, when an offer by a local firm will be submitted for consideration.
;A good ileal of valuable time has been lost unavoidably by unsuccessful efforts to finance. It was impossible to take into consideration tlie planting of more trees, while the building scheme is possibleT awl v,\- cannot unduly stress the /act of the great benefits accruing to the town, T■! the tradesmen, and the tramways, os upwards of 300 country families iv-rtling here for two or three weeks each slimmer. in conclusion, the executive have to «hank Mr. A. Smith for the donation of a Avhare, those gentlemen who kindly sillied the joint and several, Messrs Grant & Nixori for expert help in the erection of the ladies' bathing-house, the gentlemen who helped at the gates at the. last picnic, and Mr. Stocker (lion, auditor).
