PERSONAL.

Sergeant H. N. Buttle, who has been killed in action, was the only son of the Rev, J. N. Buttle, of Christclmreh.

Word has been received that Captain Rainsford Balcombe-Brown<! has been awarded the Military Cross for bringing down an enemy balloon. Captain Bal-combe-Browne is an old boy of the VVanganui Collegiate School, which he left only three years ago.

''l regret to say," said the Prime Minister in the House on Wednesday night, "that one of the members of this House who had signified to me his intention of offering his services and of again serving his King and country, as he did in the Boer war, is now lying dangerously ill. I refer, of course, to the member for Pahiatua, Mr. Eseott."

As a mark of their appreciation of the kindly interest taken by Mr. Whetter in the teachers and pupils of the Convent Schools in this district, the Sisters of the New Plymouth, WaiUra, Inglewood and Stratford Convents have presented Mr. and Mrs. Whetter with a beautifully worked point lace tablecloth, together with a rug and a silvermounted umbrella. In returning thanks Mr. Whetter eulogised the work of the Sisters and the interest displayed in the pupils.
