INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)' Inglewood, Saturday. A very pleasant gathering took place at the school on Thursday last, the object being to bid farewell' to Mr. Whetter, one of the Taranaki inspectors, who has been transferred to Hawke's Bay. Afternoon tea was served, after which Mr. 1). P. Evans, headmaster of the school, in a very pleasing speech, referred to Mr. Abetter's good and able qualities and his popularity with the teachers and children, and, on behalf of the teachers of the immediate district, presented the departing inspector with a very fine travelling rug. Mr. R. Thomas (Norfolk Road), and WagstaH'e (Inglewood) endorsed the remarks of Mr. Evans, and Miss Riordan conveyed the good wishes of the lady teachers. The many friends of Lance-Corporal K. Curtis will regret to hear that he is wounded. Mr. C. E. Hamerton has been appointed temporary town clerk. There was a fair attendance at the Parish Hall on Firday night, the proreeds of which go towards painting the vicarage.
