RUSSIANS CROSS THE DVINA.
EXTENSIVE OPERATIONS IN PROGRESS. . THREE LINES OF GERMAN " TRENCHES TAKEN ' Router Service Y& Received July 23, 515 p.m. London, July 22. A German communique admits that the Russians crossed the Dvina. This is not mentioned in the Russian communique, but it has now leaked out that the Russians have begun extensive operations on the Riga front. The first intimation was a telegram to the Novoe Vreniya announcing the capture of three lines of German trenches, together with many prisoners. A FURIOUS ATTACK. UPON HINDENBURG'S FORCES. FALL OF LEMBERG, STANISLAU AND BRODY IMMINENT Received July 22, 5.5 p.m. Petrograd, July 22. Interest is developing in General Kuropatkin's front, westward of Kemmern and Lake Bahit. The Germans are being continually irritated by carefully planned raids, hut are unable to bring a single division in support of the threatened positions. General Kuropntkin's artillery is also breaking up the front trenches. A furious attack upon General von Hindenhurg lias been in progress for several days, causing colossal losses. The fall of Brody and Stanislau is imminent. '\ The Austrians have decideoV.not to defeud Lemberg. NO REST! TERRIFIC BOMBARDMENT. RUSSIANS' GOOD HAUL. j Received July 22, 7.50 p.m. London, July 22. The Daily Chronicle's Petrograd correspondent'states there is great excitement in Riga as a. result of the offensive against Hindenburg. The bombardment is deafening. Private telegrams state that the Russians have already taken three lines of trenches, and the'fast German prisoners have reached Riga. OFFICIAL REPORT*; Received Julv 22. 7.50 p.m. Petrograd, July 22. A communique states: The artillery buttle continues on the Dvina. The Russians dislodged the enemy from the village of Jerben ami the fortifications' southward, in the vicinity of the confluence of the Styr and Lipa. We captured the passages of the Styr, and also captured 5(1 <-dicers, and 1000 men in a conflict in th-2 Bercsteehlo region. We captured ."10 Turkish officers, 400 men, and a large quantity of transports in the region north and east of Kialkitcerli. ." AUSTRIAN REPORT. ANOTHER ''VOLUNTARY" WITHDRAWAL. Received July 22, 7.50 p.m. Amsterdam, July 22. An Austrian communique states: The Russian advances on Capuli Hill (Bukovina), were repulsed. Russian attacks near lamna, south-westward of Delatyn, broke down. The. enemy attacked, after artillery preparations' lasting several days, the sector at the month of the Lipa. His advance via Werbcn was arrested; nevertheless, we withdrew our salient in portions before a new threatening surrounding movement in the Beresteozo region, RUSSIAN CABINET CHANGES. FIERCE FIGHTING AT RIGA, Renter Service. Received July 23, 11.43 p.m. Petrograd, July 23. M. Sazonoff (Foreign Minister) has resigned, and will be succeeded by M. Stunner, who retains the Premiership. M. Khvostoff has been appointed Minister of the Interior, and M. Makaroff Minister of Justice. A communique states that there was fierce fighting on the left wing of the Riga positions. The Russians penetrated enemy works at several points.
