NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS. ORIENTAL SALE. Last Wednesday and Tlmrsday an Oriental sale of work was held in the Good Templar Hall. The sale was organised by" Mrs. McKenzie, who, for many years past., has been an untiring worker in the interests of the child widows of India, under the auspices of R.unabai's Mission, but the proceeds of the sale (his year arc- to be divided between the British and Indian Red Cross funds. The display of Oriental goods was simply gorgeous, quite transforming the hall into a veritable Eastern bazaar, with its wealth of silks, silver war and lovely luces. Assisting Mrs. McKenzie was Mrs. Matthews (Wangamii) and members of the local Red Cross Society. During the afternoons and evenings musical items were rendered by .Mesdames Wilkes, Somerville and MacDonald, Misses Leatham, Kobson and Howell, Mr. MaeDqnald and Master Keith Ward. Amongst those present were:—Mesdames Paul, Bennett (Blenheim), E. A. Walker, Colvile, Peat, McKellar, D'Arcy Robertson, (i. Pott, Sludden. Foote, Roy, McTavish, E. AFTERNOON TEAS,
Last Friday Mis 3 B. Bayly gave a very enjoyable afternoon tea in honor of her sister, Mrs. Arthur Hempton, who has been on a short visit to New Plymouth. Amongst those present were: Mesdames i. Blundell, Rollo, W. Perry, F. Carthcw, Cruickshank, J. E. Wilson, Matthews, J. Wilson, Fookes, Addenbrooke, Courtney, F. G. Evans, Beatson, J. S t Perry, Webster, 1). K. Morrison, W. Bayly and Mioses Devenish, Marshall, Hcmpton, Rawson, Testar and Read. During the week Miss Crooke acted as hostess at two email afternoon teas, one being held at her own home, the other in the Victoria League room, to bid farewell to her girl friends, prior to her marriage to Mr. Cecil Gray, which is to talie place next Monday at 8 a.m., and will be of a very quiet nature. Miss W. Johnstone, who has been the guest of Mrs. D. Hughes, and Miss Marie Avery, who has been spending her holidays with her grandmother (Mrs. J. Avery), left for their respective schools in Wanganui last week.
Mrs. A. 11. Grant, who has been on a short visit to Woodville, where she was the guest of her .mother (Mrs. Beane) has returned.

Mrs. L. Nolan, who has been on a trip to Wellington, lias returned.
Mrs. Bealson, vlio has been visiting her daughter (Mrs. F. Bhmdell) lias returned to Feihling.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil. Xathan arrived from Wellington last Monday, and while here will occupy Mrs. Claude Weston's house.
