ALLEGED AUSTRIAN DISLOYALTY, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, July 18. The Alien Enemy Commission sat at Auckland ito-day. The bulk of the evidence showed that the Austrians in the north were loyal to the British, and were not in possession of arms; they had not been drilling, and were not a menace to the community. Mr. Powell, chairman of the Hokianga and Maiigonui County Council:!, said he had lived for 20 years ih North Auckland, and while there were many Austrians there as loyal as Britishers, there were many traitors. He had seen Austrians 011 a Sunday prior to the war hoist the Austrian flag and go through drill. He considered they were a menace to tli« community and interfered with recruiting. A MYSTERIOUS CASE. Auckland, July IS. A Maori woman named Louie Graham, when :>itos!cil by tne police in a shelter hit ihe Auckland railway station, stated that she came from Thames with her baby three months old. She met a woman who handed her one pound and took her child. She gave her the aildress of a person resident at Wangantii. The police stated this was the second time this sort of thing had happened here, and they asked for an adjournment to investigate. Accused was remanded for a week. RETURNED SOLDIERS WELCOMED. Wellington. Last Night. The returned.men were enthusiastically welcomed at a civic, reception this morning. The attendance included Cook Island and French soldiers who arrived by the Maitai this morning.
